    Wolfe's Pond is Gone! 08/31/2011

Nature is resilient; in-fact it may have created a great unique opportunity with the hurricane of last week.  Wolfe's Pond, Staten Island, New York was literally washed away to sea when the land broke free from the pounding waves and breeched, what at one time, kept a popular fresh water pond a quiet and familiar place to generations of Islanders. We have a chance to be a part of the restoration perhaps? If anyone knows whose leading the charge to rebuild it;I'd love to know and help spread the word. E-mail me a link or something.... thanks
I'd love the chance to photograph the work that could be done.
The debris is now exposed and can be removed with the right effort.  There are bottles, tires, cans, etc etc....
(Maybe an Eagle Scout project, or a local school or environmental group....)

    Triple Double OREO® is real
As a child, like many I preferred the stuffing to the actual cookie.  The dunkable cookie part was the milk-sponge  bookends surrounding sugary sweet heaven. BUT WHAT DO WE HAVE HERE?!!!!
An extra layer seems to have been added by nabisco cookie assembly line workers....well done, well done indeed! Have I tried one, you ask? No. Do you see the pic above? Do I need to taste it to know that its a rare improvement on perfection?!!! (Does the P90X workout look intense and diffficult-Yes, and i havent tried that either!)  If anyone spots these in the "wild" please send me a pic, and post a comment here.
No, a review of the chocolate and sugar goodness is NOT necessary; my heart already tells me they are delish!!

Hurricane Irene....we'll see if this is another case of "crying wolf" news reporting.
UNlikely to blow your house down, i guess we could be in for a real hurricane?! These things are really rare people, last one was Gloria, i think 1984-85; i remember being mad that our tree house was kinda busted up a bit.
Ever since then, you may feel like we been through dozens, its only cause the storms typically run out of steam before they come this far north. I dont know, i just cant always help but feel the news people love the fear of death and destruction; and simply want us to watch them watch what may or may not be happening.....
I hope this blog finds you all safe, and i dont mean to be callous to people who may be effected.  For the rest of us, the carnival like reporting and fear and preparation and news watching and alerts and warnings and all that; its just exhausting already and the storm is three days away still, it could still COMPLETELY turn east and miss us all together.  I know the news crews will be saddened that they wont get to stand in front of uprooted trees, and stand by generators during power outages.  That would be such a shame.
And as for the potential rain fall picture screen shot above, i found the opportunity to give you an (INSERT 12" JOKE HERE) irresistible.

Sony just announced a slew of new lenses for the compact NEX series of cameras (none of which do i personally own), and after having briefly checked one or two out- i can see why its easy to love them.
I however, a member of the SLR crowd; live to hear when the rumored a77 or a99 would become reality. That day has come (partially anyhow). The a77 is for serious enthusiasts or pros committed to the alpha line of lenses.
Price? about $1400.oo body only. $2K with kit lens

     Product Highlights
    • 24.3Mp APS-C CMOS Sensor (yay, about 20Mp more than most people will ever need)
    • OLED Electronic Viewfinder (i dont use it really)
    • Swivel/Tilt 3.0" LCD Screen (the original reason i fell in love with Sony a series, the tilt viewer is best)
    • Upgraded BIONZ Image Processor
    • 2nd Gen Translucent Mirror Design (great for low light shots)
    • Dual Media Slots (insert multiple input joke here)
    • 1080p HD Movie Capture
    • Built-In GPS (i dont use, maybe if i travel more, i will)
    • SteadyShot INSIDE Stabilization (Phenomenal as always from Sony)
    • Built-In Flash & Hot Shoe
    • Vertical Grib capable (was my ONLY complaint with the a55, FINALLY available!!) allows for extra battery storage and less hand stress from portrait shooting positions.

I will actually try to make this a productive part of my website...tech reviews for the clients who are in the market for new gear perhaps?

Announcements of future gallery events, and other opportunities to purchase some PHOTOart, or perhaps become part of it yourself...
So, stay tuned, this too (like much of our lives) is a work in progress.
